Senior Display System Engineer
Dispelix offers an exciting international work environment in a rapidly growing augmented reality industry and a highly talented world-class team to work with.
About Dispelix
At Dispelix, we develop and deliver see‑through waveguide combiners used as transparent displays in augmented reality (AR) devices. Our elegant, high‑performance AR waveguides seamlessly combine the virtual and the real. We are a trusted and visionary partner to industry leaders in AR, enabling them to redefine the form, function, and feel of AR wearables. Dispelix is headquartered in Finland.
About the role
We are looking for an experienced and highly self‑motivated Senior Display System Engineer to develop display system integration for the next generation see‑through AR displays. The role is based in Espoo, Finland, with a hybrid working model.
In this role, you will tackle challenging, system‑level problems across the full display pipeline, from light engine output through waveguide and eyepiece performance. The role involves both independent problem solving and close collaboration with a highly motivated, cross‑disciplinary team spanning waveguide design, manufacturing, and R&D. The position combines hands‑on engineering, system thinking, and ownership of critical display performance targets.
What will you do
Drive the planning, coordination, and execution of display system integration activities to support waveguide product development.
Take a hands‑on role in designing, building, and validating display system reference designs, working closely with the team from concept through prototype and verification.
Define Critical‑to‑Quality (CTQ) parameters, target values, test equipment, and test procedures for display system integration, covering system‑level performance, light engine integration, and optics.
Work hands-on with technicians and other engineers to integrate subsystems, debug issues, and ensure that all integrations meet the required quality and reliability standards.
Contribute to customer projects by supporting display system and waveguide productization, including tangible system builds and reference designs.
We expect you to have
An MSc degree in Optical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, Applied Mathematics, or a closely related field. A PhD is welcome but not required; strong practical system‑level expertise is valued equally
5+ years of hands‑on industry experience in display systems, optics, or closely related system‑level engineering roles
Proven ability to independently analyse and solve complex system‑level problems.
Experience in display systems or display sub‑system integration
Solid practical understanding of optics, including physical and geometric optics, imaging, polarization control, coherence theory, and colorimetry
We appreciate
Experience in traditional optics design
Experience in diffractive optics design
Knowledge of light engines used in augmented reality displays such as µLED, LCoS, and LBS
Experience in end‑to‑end display system integration, preferably in consumer electronics or wearable products
Knowledge of optics characterization and metrology
Practical experience with numerical methods, ray tracing, and system‑level modelling, supported by programming skills (e.g. Python, MATLAB)
Interest or experience in data‑driven and AI‑assisted methods for analysis, modelling, optimization, or quality improvement
Knowledge of manufacturing methods, tolerances, and quality‑related engineering practices
As a person, we hope that you:
Are open-minded with a passion for AR and technology in general.
Are comfortable working individually or as a part of a team.
Enjoy working in a challenge-driven, collaborative, and international work environment and are not afraid to challenge the status quo.
Are positive and communicate in a friendly and direct way.
